Our Story
Bafang Dumpling’s story starts with our founder, Mr. Lin, and his wife, Mrs. Lin. A math teacher at the time, Mr. Lin’s home was always bustling with students and though they didn’t have a lot at the time, they always found a way to feed and nourish their students. And potstickers were a favorite- a crunchy bottomed dumpling with flavorful meat and veggies- who could resist?
In 1998, while Mr. Lin was struggling financially as a mechanic, he thought back to his students and remembered how potstickers not only provided nourishment but brought his students joy eating together. With the mindset to create a better life for his family and community, he opened his first Bafang Dumpling store in Taiwan, specializing in potstickers and dumplings.
Over the years, Mr. Lin’s friends, employees, customers- his community was also inspired to become small business owners. He welcomed the opportunity as new franchise partners, and from then, the journey of the Bafang Dumpling franchise took off. Today, Bafang Dumpling has over 1,100 stores in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China.
In September 2021, Bafang Yunji Foods became a publicly traded company in Taiwan. As the leading company of fast foods in Taiwan, the vision of our company’s culture and the stores remains– to nourish, grow, and build together as a community.

The History of Dumplings
Dumpling comes in many shapes and forms and their name indicates the particular ways to cook.
Potstickers (guō tiē 鍋貼) are rectangular with a flat bottom, meaning “sticking to the pot.” At Bafang Dumpling, they are cooked on a griddle, creating a crispy bottom.
Dumplings (shuǐ jiǎo 水餃) are boiled, with “shuǐ” meaning water and “jiǎo” referring to dumplings. Traditionally a comfort food, they symbolize wealth and prosperity. Bafang’s unique dumpling shape resembles yuan-bao, ancient gold currency, bringing family and friends together.
